Some of my very best musician buddies, are playing this weekend for those of you in Central Illinois.
Wiplot opens for vonFrickle at Paulies in Bloomington, IL, Saturday, Feb 25, 10:00. Wiplot is a very original and organic wacky pop band. I guess that’s how I would describe it. They have a song called ‘Insignificant’ that absolutely slays me every time I hear it. Maybe they will do that one for us this Saturday. Pretty please Wiplot? I think they have a bunch of new stuff to share too…
As for vonFrickle, I’ve described them before as creators of "mind-blowing, experimental sci-fi instrumentals played by ridiculously talented humans in alien suits." Be prepared for a wild ride. They recently signed with a local indie record label, oie, so we aren’t the only ones that think they are special.
Also worth mentioning, nearly everyone to appear on stage that evening played an important part on our full length 100 Year Picnic album, As Tall As The Sky. Wiplot (Dean, James, Tony, Fish) played the backing tracks for the extra funky ‘Catch This Crazy’ and ‘I’m In Denial’. Ganser played drums on ‘Mary Faye Tucker’, ‘Take This Town,’ and ‘I Started Thinking’, and he played drums and moog on ‘Heaven,’ which we co-wrote. Dan played an upright bass on ‘About Everything But You’ Ken played backwards guitar on ‘I Started Thinking’ and a beautiful-to-blistering guitar solo for ‘Tie’s Been Broken.’ Tony provided much feedback on various mixes and played congas on ‘Hot Balloon’ and so on and so on.
So yeah, these guys are family. Come check it out.
